It would have been great if we were in the same state. We could have arranged a meet up over coffee or so. Its hard to find mom's group or even playgroups which will cater for my interests.

I recently purchased Littlereader and let me tell you, so far I am loving this software. I feel its even better that YBCR possibly because of that fact that they have organized everyday lessons and they also have dedicated phonics lessons. The pictures and words are also changed everyday so that the babies don't merely memorize it.I am not quite impressed with the littlemath software though (just got that one for a 14 day trial). It might work once my baby is a couple more months older.
As of now I am happy using the doman dots.

Just go to your library website and check if they have the ten minutes a day prog.Over here once a month they have a lirarian read these books to the babies. However, they have ten minutes a day packages that you can borrow from the library everyday. Its age appropriate and carefully put together package aimed at providing early brain stimulation for babies.

I was wondering if we could keep in touch via email. Its a lot more easier. If you dont mind I can add you on my google talk list. If you are not comfortable thats completely fine.

Regards,
Soumyamomtobabyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16489470843286304649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078776876367571983.post-24921460466389819782010-11-20T21:12:48.850+11:002010-11-20T21:12:48.850+11:00Hi there!

I haven't heard of this ten minute a day program but I will definitely see if our library has this available too! I have borrowed books from the library to read to BC before and I will do this again soon, it is hard though as he tries to suck and eat all the books and I don't want to ruin any that aren't ours.

Best wishes with your program and looking forward to speaking soon!Aussie Mum of Onehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16237474922035778227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078776876367571983.post-36950559321940554882010-11-17T12:08:23.806+11:002010-11-17T12:08:23.806+11:00Hi Aussie mum of one,

I am quite impressed to see ur 'goal list' and I am sure that u will be able to get it all done, good luck :).

Well, yeah ikwum...there are lots of fake stuff out there on ebay so I guess its best to get it from YBCR website.

I am already a member of brillkids and like you said I am just amazed at how much info is out there on early learning.

As for the books I have decided to go to the library every week and get new books (they have something called ten minute a day pack which is meant for babies). I thought its best not to spend money on baby books.

Keep up the good work and wish u all the best.

Regards,
Soumyamomtobabyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16489470843286304649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078776876367571983.post-33835579841854147262010-11-14T20:53:43.647+11:002010-11-14T20:53:43.647+11:00Soumya,

I'm sure you can purchase a laminator in your local department store. Then you buy these plastic laminating pouches and you put the A4 piece of paper between the laminating pouch and feed it into the laminator. The machine works on a roller and produces lots of heat and as the pouch is rolled through the machine, the heat seals it together thus that the paper is now laminated!

When I'm doing just the reading words I do not provide a picture representation but when I'm doing encyclopedic knowledge, I sometimes do. So my word cards are just written words and I show them to him while reading aloud the word.

I don't have any recommendation on getting YBCR cheap as we know there are many fake copies on Ebay at the moment so I'm not sure you can be sure of what you're getting unless you buy it from their website direct. It certainly isn't cheap and this is VERY frustrating!

I am a big fan of baby markets and love getting lots of bargains for BC from the markets. A lot of our books come from the markets or are gifts. I also bought him the Mr Men and Dr Seuss collections on sale at Target and we love reading these to him!

The best piece of advice I have is to get on to the BrillKids forums if you're not already? I might seem knowledgable and helpful now, but trust me, I know NOTHING compared to these Mums and Dads. If you are interested, check out the forum's website at http://www.brillkids.com/ra.php?46994. By using this special link, and by using the coupon code BKAFF46994 (just cut and paste it when you sign up), you will get a bonus 500 points just for becoming a member through my recommendation, and you will get 2000 bonus loyalty points if you choose to make a purchase from the BrillKids Online Store (you have to use the coupon here too if you want the 2000 bonus points). Hope this all helps! Looking forward to hearing more about how you're going!!

LisaAussie Mum of Onehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16237474922035778227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078776876367571983.post-68473580705831708802010-11-14T11:51:03.936+11:002010-11-14T11:51:03.936+11:00Thanks for the warm welcome Aussie mom of one:)

So far this is what we have been doing :

1. Doman math dots
2. Phonics and Alphabets
3. Baby Einstein video
4. Atlas reading

I planning to make some encyclopedic and word cards. Do you need to have picture representation for the word cards? I mean do u have the picture and then the word underneath the picture? Could you also please explain how you laminate the A4 cards? Do you get it done in a shop? We are still debating on whether to get 'your baby can read' dvd. Where do u get this dvd for cheap?I also need to start reading to my baby a lot more. We don't have a good collection of books yet. Where do u buy all your books from?

Thanks a lot for your help and keep up the good work:)

Cheers,
Soumyamomtobabyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16489470843286304649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078776876367571983.post-5560222934682213692010-11-14T10:05:38.309+11:002010-11-14T10:05:38.309+11:00My pleasure! For our encyclopedic knowledge and ma...My pleasure! For our encyclopedic knowledge and math dot cards we printed the dots/pictures and words onto A4 paper using our colour printer here at home. Then I laminate them using a cheap laminator we bought from Kmart or OfficeWorks here. Any big general department store or stationary supply store should sell laminator machines and laminating pouches. I paid $30AUD for the laminator I think. The paper is inserted into the laminating pouch and then rolled through the machine which heat sets the pouch. This is a similar machine to the one we have http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Office-Supplies/Conference-and-Presentation/Laminating/Laminating-Machines/Pouch-Laminating/LOLAMMACA4

When I'm showing BC words as in reading, I only show the word but for encyclopedic knowledge, I've laminated two pages back to back, one side with the word and the other with the image. Sometimes I just show the picture and sometimes the word and picture. Does this make sense? I'm hoping to finish my daily goals chart today and will blog about it when it's finished!Aussie Mum of Onehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16237474922035778227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078776876367571983.post-50611084527348481652010-11-14T00:18:14.341+11:002010-11-14T00:18:14.341+11:00Thanks a ton for ur reply :)

I am planning to make my own but I am not sure how to laminate the normal A4 paper. If you can explain it that will be great.I am currently preparing the doman dot cards.
